Kyle Palmieri finally scores his 200th career NHL goal

On April 8, Kyle Palmieri scored his 199th career NHL goal. None of us thought it would be long before the New York Islanders forward would score number 200. Sure, he started the year scoring a single goal in 29 games, but the veteran forward had turned that around of late.

From game 30 of the year (Feb 15) through to April 8, Palmieri scored 13 goals in 28 games on 60 shots for a wicked 21.7% shooting percentage. Getting to number 200 wouldn't have to wait long with that kind of scoring pace.

Except it did. Sorta.

Kyle went ten games without scoring a goal after hitting number 199. Ten games! Finally in the eleventh game after scoring number 199, he popped this nice goal on the power play.

The pass from Josh Bailey almost didn't get to him as it seems to lose a bit of momentum either off a Capitals stick or because Bailey himself flubbed it a bit. Didn't matter because Palmieri was still able to generate a ton of torque on the shot to blow it by Vitek Vanecek.

Relief. I'm sure that's what Palmieri was feeling after that one. Ten games without a goal is a long wait for anyone not to mention someone who's looking to hit a career milestone.

Not to mention having a previous effort called back a few days earlier. An effort that would have surely landed him on some highlight reels had it actually counted.

The infraction? It seems Zach Parise touched the Capitals goalie and so the goal was waved off. There's no doubt contact there, but it's not like Parise can get out of the way. The Capitals defenseman has him boxed in pretty tight.

That wasn't the first time a Kyle Palmieri goal had been called back. Something that wasn't lost on Brock Nelson.

Congrats to Palmieri for hitting goal number 200....I mean "206" in his NHL career.
