A small grass fire at the Kappa Ethanol Plant west of Axtell was quickly extinguished after two fire departments responded Thursday afternoon.

According to Kearney County Emergency Manager Craig Lupkes, fire crews from Axtell and Minden were called to the fire just before 1 p.m. He said a 20-foot strip of grass burned next to the railroad tracks at the plant site.

Lupkes said the fire was extinguished within 20 to 30 minutes. No damage to structures or injuries were reported.
