The Musik Theater an der Wien has unveiled its 2022-23 season.

It all kicks off with “La Liberazione” by Francesca Caccini. The work will be conducted by Clemens Flick and directed by Ilaria Lanzino. Sara Gouzy, Luciana Mancini, Kresimir Strazanac, Jerilyn Cohou, and Bernarda Klinar headline the cast.

Performance Dates: Oct. 10 – 21, 2022

Janacek’s “The Cunning Little Vixen” will star Melissa Petit, Alzbeta Vomácková, Jana Kurucova, Marcell Bakonyi, and Ya Chung Huang, among others. Giedre Slekyte conducts with Stephen Herheim directing.

Performance Dates: Oct. 15-27, 2022 

Steffani’s “La Lotta d’Ercole con Acheloo” will star Xavier Sabata, Anna Prohaska, Terry Wey, and Philip Mathman. Ruben Dubrovsky provides musical direction for the concert performance.

The Arnold Schoenberg Choir will present a concert featuring music by Schütz, Distler, Bach, Haydn, Schubert, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Bruckner, Schönberg, Eisler, Ligeti, and Cerha.

Antonio Fogliani will conduct Tobias Kratzer’s production of Rossini’s “La Gazza Ladra.” The opera stars Nino Machaidze, Paolo Bordogna, Maxim Mironov, Marina de Liso, and Fabio Capitanucci.

Ottavio Dantone leads a concert performance of “Tamerlano” starring Filippo Mineccia, Bruno Taddia, Delphine Galou, Marina de Liso, Sophie Rennert, and Arianna Vendittelli.

Caldera’s “Il Venceslao” will be presented in a concert performance starring Nicholas Tamagna, Max Emanuel Cencic, Dennis Orellana, Suzanne Jerosme, Sonja Runje, Stefan Sbonnik, and Pavel Kudinov.

Martín y Soler’s “L’Arbore di Diana” will be conducted by Ruben Dubrovsky and directed by Rafael R. Villalobos. Veronica Cangemi, Maya Iight, Jerilyn Chou, Anna Sophia Part, and Bernarda Klinikar headline the cast.

Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors” will star Jamila Kaiser, Paul Schweinester, Nikolay Borchev, and William Schwinghammer. Magnus Loddgard conducts and Stephen Herheim directs.

“Magnificat” will feature works by Bach and Scarlatti. Rene Jacobs conducts Sunhae Im, Coline Dutilleul, Alberto Miguelez Rouco, Magnus Dietrich, and Yannick Debus.

Jordan de Souzza conducts “La Perichole” with Nikolaus Habjan directing. Anna Lucia Richter, David Fischer, Andreas Strömer, Boris Eder, and Paul Graf star.

Haydn’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” will be presented in a concert version. Adam Fischer conducts Michael Nagy, Emoke Barath, Krystian Adam, and Alicia Amo.

Eötvös’ “Der Goldene Drache” will star Camilla Saba Davies, Christa Ratzenboeck, Karl Michael Ebner, Peter Schoene, and Felix Heuser. Walter Kobera conducts a production by Jan Essinger.

Händel’s “Belshazzar” will be showcased in a production by Marie-Eve Signeyrole and conducted by Christina Pluhar. The cast includes Robert Murray, Jeanine De Bique, Vivica Genaux, Michael Nagl, and Eva Zaïcik.

Soprano Céline Scheen and countertenor Valer Sabadus headline “Händel Goes Wild.” The showcase will be conducted by Christina Pluhar, who leads L’Arpeggiata.”

Lully’s “Thésée” will be showcased in a concert performance conducted by Christophe Rousset and featuring his ensemble Les Talens Lyriques. Mathia Vidal, Karine Deshayes, Deborah Cachet, Philippe Estèphe, Marie Lys, and Fabien Hyon star.

David Marton directs “Der Freischütz.” The cast includes Jacquelyn Wagner, Sofia Fomina, Alex Esposito, Dean Murphy, and Tuomas Katajala.

Händel’s “Alexander’s Feast” will get a concert performance under the musical direction of Robert King, who will lead The King’s Consort. Carolyn Sampson, Joshua Ellicott, and Matthew Brook star.

The company will present “Superzero, Baby,” a work for younger audiences. Scharmien Zandi directs with Marc Bruckner conducting.

Weinberg’s “The Idiot” will be directed by Vasily Barkhatov with Michael Boder conducting. The cast will feature Dmitry Golovnin, Natalya Pavlova, Kostas Smoriginas, Petr Sokolov, and Valery Gilmanov.

 A concert performance of Porpora’s “Il Polifemo” will star Franco Fagioli, Max Emanuel Cencic, Julia Lezhneva, Rinnat Moriah, Sonja Runje, and Sreten Maojlovic. George Petrou conducts.

Berg’s “Lulu” will be directed by Marlene Monteiro Freitas. Maxime Pascal conducts a cast starring Vera-Lotte Boecker, Bo Skovhus, Edgaras Montvidas, Cameron Becker, and Anne Sofie von Otter, among others.

Korngold’s “Die Stumme Serenade” will star Jasmina Sakr, Peter Bording, Jenifer Lary, and Paul Schweinester. Ingo Martin Stadtmüller conducts and Dirk Schmeding directs.
