Stoops is the winningest coach in University of Oklahoma football history. He was the Sooners' head football coach for 18 years until his retirement in 2017.
Stoops came out of retirement briefly last year to coach the Sooners in the Alamo Bowl after Lincoln Riley abruptly left. OU beat Oregon, adding to Stoops' program-best win total.
During a speech on the House floor, Stoops credited everyone around him for his success.
"I'll be the first to tell you I did nothing alone. My team, my players are the absolute best. Players, any team around you, they make you," Stoops said.
The former OU coach also talked about what he did after Riley left for USC.
"My first mission was to remind everybody, players, community, everybody at the university that Lincoln Riley didn’t invent OU football," Stoops said. "And everyone needed a little wake-up call because they kind of slipped into thinking he did."
Stoops said he’s excited for OU’s future with Brent Venables as head coach.
