Rick Ross is already planning to go back to Africa after setting some big goals for himself. The rapper and Wingstop owner announced plans to climb Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, in 2024.
“I really believe when I put my heart to something, I can do anything,” he said during an interview with the host of Full Send Podcast. “This is the first time I’ve said this, but in 2024, I’ma hike to the top of Kilimanjaro.”
Ross explained he was inspired one night while chilling in his yard.
“I was smoking, I was on my back patio last night, I’m sitting underneath the trees, I’m listening to the waterfall, I’m looking at the plants, the landscaping, the patio furniture, you know? And I gave myself a challenge,” said Ross.
At 19,341 feet, Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro is not just Africa’s tallest mountain, but the tallest freestanding mountain in the world.

It can take even the most experienced climbers anywhere from five to nine days to reach the summit. The climb itself is reportedly not that difficult, but dealing with the altitude itself is. Summit night is the hardest part of the climb as it’s the coldest and windiest part of the journey with 49% less oxygen.
Ross said he hasn’t looked into the climb details but is determined.
“I’m the boss, I don’t look into nothing,” he said. “I make my mind up, it’s not really that big. I just gotta get it done. And what you gotta realize, if you notice I said 2024. So for the rest of this year, I’m getting prepared mentally, next year I get prepared physically.”
While most people take an average of nine days to climb, Ross said he will allow himself 12 days. He also plans to take people with him because someone has to carry his Wingstop.
