MACON COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -- A 27-year-old man who walked through the streets of Montezuma armed with a shotgun and yelling out threats has been arrested, according to police.
Montezuma police officials state that 27-year-old Rakim Melvin, of Montezuma, also committed multiple thefts.
Melvin is a suspect in a burglary and vehicle theft at Macon County Motors in Oglethorpe and a vehicle theft at Yoders Tire Service.
He was also charged with a hit and run that police say occurred in Montezuma.
Melvin was booked into the Macon County Jail for the following charges:
- Hit and run
- Burglary
- Vehicle theft (three counts)
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Melvin also has other charges pending the outcome of these investigations.
"We worked very closely with Mr. Melvin's family to get him to turn himself in; due to, him making threats towards citizens and possibly shooting a police officer," said Chief Eric Finch of the Montezuma Police Department. "We want to personally thank all our citizens who assisted our law enforcement agencies (Macon County Sheriff's Office and Oglethorpe Police Department) on this case."
