Julia Garner on the 'life-changing experience' of Ozark: 'I could shoot it for the rest of my life'

Garner and costar Laura Linney break down their final goodbyes on the Netflix drama.

Goodbyes are always difficult, but Ozark stars Julia Garner and Laura Linney found it particularly hard to say farewell to their Emmy-winning drama after four seasons.

In fact, Garner, a breakout who has so far won two Emmys for her role as Ruth Langmore, says she'd be happy to never stop work on the show. "I could shoot Ozark for the rest of my life, selfishly," she says in the latest edition of EW's Around the Table series with fellow stars Jason Bateman, Linney, and showrunner Chris Mundy.

"The experience got better and better. That does not happen very often. I mean, it's so rare that anything comes together as well as this did in the first place," Linney agrees, adding, "I think it's changed us all for the better."

After four action-packed seasons, the money-laundering schemes of Marty (Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Linney) and their various associates will come to an end when the final seven episodes, which have been dubbed season 4 part 2, stream on Netflix April 29. And although shooting wrapped on the show months ago, Linney says she doesn't feel as if she's said goodbye to it yet, and maybe never will.

"I'm still saying goodbye to people. I'm still picking up the phone and saying, 'How are you doing?' I hope I never fully say goodbye to it," she says. "I hope I'm always connected to these people in a way, so that I don't feel like it ever dies within me. I don't think it ever will."

Still, when the final week of production came around, and it was time for everyone to part ways, Garner says it was "really, really hard" and "one of the saddest weeks," partially because so many of the cast and crew had been a part of the series from day one. But it's that shared experience with everyone that ensures the connection lives on. Says Garner, "I feel like Ozark changed all of our lives for different reasons. So when you have a life-changing experience, you're always going to be connected to those people."
