The upcoming weeks in Bavaria are set to be dominated by contract talks of two forwards. Bayern Munich will be looking to extend the contracts of Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry. Both players currently have less than 12 months left on their contracts.

Gnabry’s situation has been dragged on for most of the season. Initially, the German forward’s contract extension looked like a formality since he is settled in Bavaria. However, the talks have not led to an agreement, and there has been speculation surrounding his future at the club.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Gnabry is yet to make a decision about his long-term future at Bayern. The German forward is also not considering a transfer in the summer, so a move looks highly unlikely. More talks are expected to take place between Rekordmeister and Gnabry’s representatives in the coming weeks.

Serge Gnabry is reportedly looking for parity in wages with other wide forwards in the squad. Kingsley Coman signed a long-term deal in January after Rekordmeister decided to give a raise. Gnabry will naturally like to see a similar hike after coming up with big contributions on the pitch in the past three seasons.

The long-drawn talks between Gnabry and Bayern have made sure that the German forward is linked with other top clubs in Europe. Real Madrid is reportedly monitoring his situation, but the Spanish club is not planning to make a move for him in the summer. Los Blancos may look to get him on a free transfer if he decides against signing a renewal in Bavaria.

Meanwhile, Bayern has also reportedly made a contingency plan to replace Gnabry if he doesn’t sign a new contract. The German club has been linked with moves for Ajax’s Antony and RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku. Any move for one of these forwards will depend on the outcome of talks with Gnabry.

Even though Gnabry is not thinking about a summer transfer, Die Roten may have to listen to offers for him in the summer if he doesn’t sign a contract extension in the coming weeks. The German club cannot afford to lose a player entering the peak years of his career on a free transfer.

The next few weeks are crucial for the conclusion of this contract saga. Serge Gnabry has been a very good forward for Rekordmeister in the past few seasons. The Bavarian faithful will be hoping that the club finds a way to reach an agreement with him and make sure that he spends his peak years at Allianz Arena.
