In an interview with Russian TV, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov said that Russia is essentially at war with NATO. This rhetoric has some worried that Russia may use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Lt. Col. Dakota Wood weighed in on the likelihood of this happening.
"The fear of nuclear war is what Moscow is using to discourage further Western involvement in Ukraine," said Wood.
While Wood believes this is most likely saber-rattling on the part of the Russians, he did point out that the use of tactical nuclear weapons is part of Russian war doctrine. Wood said that though the likelihood of nuclear war is low, it is not a bad idea for people to be prepared in the event things take a turn for the worst.
