2 Nicholas County residents plead guilty to animal cruelty charges

NICHOLAS COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) – Two Nicholas County residents who pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges will now have to pay $500 each to a central Kentucky animal shelter.

FOX 56 readers might remember Matilda from when her tragic story came to light in February. She came to the Paris Animal Welfare Society, known as PAWS, after a bystander found her cold and severely underweight. Employees at the organization called her condition “one of the worst cases of neglect we had ever seen,” and were unsure if she would survive.

Her previous owners, Dustin Scott and Madison Tomlin, have pleaded guilty to animal abuse charges in this case. According to court records, In addition to paying $500 each to PAWS, the pair will legally not be permitted to have any pets or animals in their household.

Despite the tough start, we are happy to report that Matilda has found her forever home and is doing much better.
