Letter: A vote for Victor Perez for Ashland County judge is the right thing to do

Ashland Times Gazette

I want to take this opportunity to tell you why Victor Perez should be our next judge for Ashland County Common Pleas Court.

Drugs are a constant problem in today’s world and they are in our town as well.

Addiction is evil because it imprisons the host and destroys the family. There are no simple solutions to fix our drug problems as well as tackling the addiction problems.

That is why we need a drug court.

Not everyone has experienced a family member who is addicted to drugs. Your heart breaks and you do everything possible to try to fix the problem. You talk and talk asking them to stop! It never happens.

Jobs are lost, debt is accumulated to unheard amounts, and families are broken. Crying never seems to stop because you have run out of ideas! They are in and out of jail because they are always doing something stupid.

You talk to lawyers and even write letters to the judge in hopes your loved one will get the help they need.

Going to counseling on a short-term basis does not help this problem! Then you realize, that your loved one does not act right even when they are clean. What is really in all those drugs? Now your loved one has mental issues as well. What can you do?

No one cares. This is the kind of system that we have today. I have been through all this hell and the end is still not in sight. Do we really want more years of this kind of care? Everyone is not the same.

That is why I am voting for Victor Perez. He is all for setting up a drug court and other specialized courts for those of need. They don’t get off the hook for the things that they do wrong, rather they get the help they need.

Ashland is a great town, but like everywhere else, we have problems. Let’s help our people get back on the right track by voting for Victor Perez. It is the right thing to do.
