Cary Elwes shows off swollen finger after rattlesnake bite: 'Recovering well'

Cary Elwes is showing off his recovery after he was bitten by a rattlesnake. 

"The Princess Bride" actor showed off his inconceivably discolored and swollen finger on Instagram Monday as he thanked medical personnel for their "great care." Elwes, 59, also joked that he was not bit by the beasts in "Princess Bride" which are called ROUS (Rodents of unusual size). 

"Bit not by a ROUS but a rattlesnake. Grateful to the staff of Malibu Urgent Care, LA County Fire Dept. and the staff and medical professionals at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for their great care," he wrote. "Am recovering well thanks to all these wonderful folks."

Cary Elwes is recovering after being bitten by a rattlesnake.

The graphic photo of the injury sparked lots of "feel better" responses from celebrities. 

"Stanger Things" actor Randy Havens wrote, "Oh my gosh Cary! Please feel better! Sending healing thoughts your way." 

"Oh dear. Omg. How???? Please tell so as not to happen to me," actress Lea Thompson wrote. 

Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino wrote: "Oh my that looks terribly painful!! I hope you are ok!!!"

According to the Mayo Clinic, snakebites from venomous snakes, including the rattlesnake, come with various severe symptoms: "There is severe burning pain at the site within 15 to 30 minutes. This can progress to swelling and bruising at the wound and all the way up the arm or leg. Other signs and symptoms include nausea, labored breathing and a general sense of weakness, as well as an odd taste in the mouth."

As Elwes recovers he will be getting ready for his next acting gig in Netflix's "Rebel Moon."

The British actor posted the news on Instagram April 8, writing that he happy to be brought on board to work with director Zack Snyder. Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera and Corey Stoll are also set to star in the film. 

"Very excited to be working with the wonderfully talented Zack Snyder on his new project, 'Rebel Moon.' My very first sci-fi with the master himself," Elwes wrote.
