Through the first 17 games of the season, last year’s NLCS MVP couldn’t have started any worse. He’s currently hitting just .068 with a -21 OPS+, resulting in -1.1 bWAR. That’s not the guy Braves fans are used to seeing, but it appears there is a reason for the early season struggles. Late last night, the team announced that Rosario will undergo laser eye surgery to fix his vision.
Medical Update on Eddie Rosario:
OF Eddie Rosario saw a retinal specialist today and will undergo a laser procedure in the coming days to correct blurred vision and swelling in his right eye.

As a man with plenty of eye problems myself, I can’t imagine what it could possibly be like attempting to hit major-league pitching while not being able to see properly. Hopefully, this surgery fixes the issue, but either way, the Braves will have to find a replacement for the next couple of months. Rosario is expected to be out at least seven to eight weeks.

If there was one black spot on the Braves roster coming into the season, it’s their depth. There aren’t many inspiring options they can turn to, especially with Ronald Acuña still on the IL. Nothing is going to force Acuña back quicker; however, if he’s cleared, I expect him to be re-activated very soon.
Until then, the Braves will probably use a platoon of guys to replace his production, like Orlando Arcia, Guillermo Heredia, and Travis Demeritte. I know many fans are hoping for a Michael Harris or Drew Waters appearance, but I find that highly unlikely. The Braves will probably just hold down the fort with what they have until Acuña returns, which could be sooner than many expect.
