Tottenham have secured the immediate future of another defender by triggering a one-year extension in the contract of Canada international and club captain Shelina Zadorsky.

Zadorsky is the second key defender this month to commit to the club after full-back Ashleigh Neville recent signed a new long-term contract until the summer of 2025.

Zadorsky’s new deal extends the one-year deal she signed last summer until 2023, giving the 29-year-old at least one more season in the WSL.

“Working with a club that wants to keep building a winning culture is so exciting to me,” she said.

“Working with Rehanne [Skinner] and the rest of our staff has made me a better player and I want to keep growing. It’s a huge honour to play for the club.

“I'm just excited. Coming here to the WSL has been such a good decision for me and my career.”

Zadorsky arrived at Spurs in the summer of 2020 from Orlando Pride, initially on loan, after the NWSL club temporarily withdrew from competition amid the Covid-19 pandemic. But that deal was then made permanent in January 2021 and the Canadian soon became captain as well.

New deals for Neville and Zadorsky are early parts of Spurs’ summer plan.

Manager Rehanne Skinner recently confirmed, “There will be a number of players announced before too long, as well the club being “active to try to add to core base” in the summer transfer window.

With four games still to play, Spurs have already enjoyed their best ever season, surpassing previous club records for number of WSL wins and points. It will also be a best ever league finish.
