Mom Slammed for Making Son's Pregnant Girlfriend Sleep on Floor

The internet is slamming a mom for making her son's pregnant girlfriend sleep on the floor of her apartment.

Posted to Reddit's "AmITheA**hole" forum, a man using a throwaway account u/roseonthefloor took to the community in hopes of getting the thoughts of many to see if he was in the wrong. The post has 15,000 upvotes and 1,000 comments in nine hours.

The original poster (OP), begins by telling the reader that he has a girlfriend, "Rose," who is five months pregnant. At first, the OP's mother "tolerated" Rose up until things got worse when they announced she was pregnant.

"She has become extremely rude and disrespectful towards my girlfriend. She makes passive-aggressive comments at every chance she gets. I've had to take a step back from my mother until she fixes her behaviour," he said.

Intimacy Expert, Allana Pratt, gave some advice via MeetMindful, about what to do if your mother doesn't like your significant other.

"You're born with your family, yet you get to CHOOSE your friends and beloved," she wrote, "Your mom may be afraid that she's separating from you and has no sense of worth to stand on without you. Forgive her. Yet don't be controlled by this. It's a time of growth for your mom too."

"She doesn't need to be subjected to abuse. Nor does she need to do cartwheels to be liked. You two are who you are. In love. So be it. No need to be jerks either. Just let things ride. Take some space. Let it go," she continued.

Rose went to visit her family, who lived far from where they resided. Unfortunately, Rose had car troubles that ended with her pulling over. Since the OP was not in the country at the time, his brother went to help her out. The OP's brother lives with his mom and since she was far away from home and it was too late, Rose stayed with the OP's brother and mom for the night. However, the OP's mom didn't like the idea.

"Rose helps prepare dinner, wash up, and actually engage in a decent conversation with my mum for the first time in ages. However, they mostly avoid each other. Chris goes to bed earlier, leaving my mum and Rose," he said.

"My mum lives in a two-bedroom apartment and since both bedrooms were taken. Rose assumed that she would be sleeping on the couch. She apparently assumed wrong," he continued.

The OP explained that Rose was given "the thinnest blanket ever" and yelled at her to sleep on the floor and not the couch so Rose didn't "ruin her couch." She only had the pillows from the couch. Rose wanted to say something but decided against it.

Rose told the OP that his mom kept her bedroom door open to make sure Rose didn't sleep on the couch. When Chris went out of his room early in the morning, he found Rose on the couch and let her sleep in his bed. Chris urged the OP to "not make a big fuss out of it." However, he was very angry with his mother.

"I called my mum, very angry, and told her that she was disrespecting her so badly. She tried to defend herself by saying, 'that she didn't harm the baby,' and 'it's okay for pregnant women to sleep on the floor,' but I Refused to hear any of it. Chris agrees with me, but told me that I shouldn't make it a fight. I feel like I'm losing my mind," the OP wrote.

Redditors backed the OP, and seemed horrified by his mother's actions.

"[Not the A**hole] but I would put boundaries on the mother seeing the baby. She shouldn't see the kid unless she can respect the mother," u/Much-Run-80 wrote, receiving the top comment with 23,000 upvotes.

"Yeah," the OP replied, "Unless she fixes her behaviour, she's not seeing my newborn."

"[Not the A**hole], and thank you for standing by your partner! And your mom is a total [A**hole] here...who makes a pregnant woman sleep on the floor when there's other options?? Your mom definitely has some sort of grudge that she needs to get over, and quickly," u/versaillesna said.

U/TheF0CTOR exclaimed, "[Not the A**hole]. Who makes a pregnant woman sleep on the floor? For that matter, who makes a guest sleep on the floor!? If the couch gets dirty, just flip the cushions and move on with your life. Thank your brother for being the adult in the room, and tell your mom that she's jeapordizing her relationship with you by treating your girlfriend so poorly."
