After a two-year hiatus, the Royal Oak Wine Stroll event is returning to restaurants and other venues in the downtown.

The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the annual event organized by the Royal Oak Restaurant Association.

But it returns from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 14.

“The wine stroll has always been a favorite downtown event,” said Stephanie McIntyre, a spokeswoman for the RORA. “People like to come out when the weather starts to get warm and it’s patio season” at downtown bars and restaurants.

Seventeen venues are taking part in the upcoming event, including 526 Main, Bigalora, Gusoline Alley, Jolly Pumpkin, Oak City Grille, Pronto, The Sidebar, Tom’s Oyster Bar, and Ye Old Saloon.

Other locations include Bar Louie, Fifth Avenue, Jim Brady’s Detroit, Lily’s Seafood Grille & Brewery, O’Toole’s, Rock on Third, and Trattoria da Luigi.

Tickets are on sale now at dineroyaloak.org or through Eventbrite.

Participants check in at 11 a.m. the day of the wine stroll at either the Fifth Avenue sports bar or Bigalora restaurant on Main Street.

Wine strollers can sample a variety of wines and signature dishes at the 17 bars and eateries.

“It’s usually small groups of people who come to the wine stroll together,” McIntyre said. “It’s a fun social outing.”

Attendees this year can taste dishes such as Tuna Wontons, Millionaire’s Shortbread, Blackened Shrimp Street Tacos, Vegetarian Croquettes and others samples while sipping  rosés, cabernets, pinot grigios and others.

A portion of the money from the wine stroll will benefit Metro Detroit Youth Clubs.
