SUNRISE, Fla. -The South Florida chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association (PHWA) announced today that Florida Panthers forward Anthony Duclair has been selected as the club's 2021-22 nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
Duclair, 26, has recorded a career-high 31 goals and 56 points (31-25-56) over 71 games this season. His 31 tallies and 22 even-strength goals are tied for second-most on the Panthers. He ranks third on Florida with nine power-play goals. Since joining Florida prior to the 2020-21 season, the Pointe-Claire, Quebec, native has amassed 88 points (41-47-88) over 114 games.

Duclair is a founding member of the Hockey Diversity Alliance (HDA), along with fellow players Akim Aliu (Chair), Evander Kane, Trevor Daley, Matt Dumba, Nazem Kadri, Wayne Simmonds, Chris Stewart and Joel Ward. Founded in June 2020, the HDA is "committed to inspire a new and diverse generation of hockey players and fans," focusing on "eradicating systemic racism and intolerance in hockey."
Duclair and several Panthers players

labeled with 'Racism Has No Place in Hockey' during warmups prior to the Panthers game vs. the Dallas Stars on Jan. 14.
In coordination with his teammates, Duclair led an effort to create "

" shirts for Panthers players and staff to wear prior to their game against the New York Rangers on Feb. 1. The Panthers wore the shirts throughout February in honor of Black History Month.
The Masterton Trophy is awarded each season under the trusteeship of the PHWA to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr was the recipient of the 2016 Masterton Trophy and goaltender Roberto Luongo was a finalist for the award in 2018.
The Masterton Trophy winner is selected from a poll of the 32 chapters of the PHWA at the end of the regular season. Each of the 32 PHWA member chapters nominated a player from the 32 NHL clubs they cover.
The PHWA first presented the Masterton Trophy in 1968 to commemorate the late Bill Masterton, a player with the Minnesota North Stars, who exhibited to a high degree the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Masterton died January 15, 1968 following an injury suffered in a game.
