Bruce Springsteen performs “Come Together” with Gary Clark Jr. at the Kennedy Center.

At the ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., at which Jon Stewart was given this year’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Bruce Springsteen joined Gary Clark Jr. and Clark’s band for a cover of The Beatles’ “Come Together.”

Springsteen also performed an acoustic version of “Born to Run” at the ceremony.

(June 21 Update: A video of the entire show is now viewable on the pbs.org website. I have also embedded it below. “Come Together opens the show and “Born to Run” can be seen at the 57-minute mark.)

Springsteen has previously performed “Come Together” in public only once before, as a duet with Axl Rose at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 1994, at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. You can watch a video of that below.

Stewart is the 23th recipient of the Twain award. Other participants in the April 24 ceremony included Jimmy Kimmel, Dave Chappelle, Pete Davidson, Steve Carell, Samantha Bee, Olivia Munn and Ed Helms. Stephen Colbert (who couldn’t be there in person because he has COVID) and John Oliver paid tribute via video.

Chappelle reportedly said of Stewart, “It’s a miracle to watch you work” and “You are a cure to what ails our culture.”

Highlights from the show will air on June 21 on PBS and pbs.org.
