If Karen Huger has proved anything to fans over the years, it's that she's a true multi-hyphenate with a strong connection to her family. And she took fans even deeper inside her world — and home to Surry County, Virginia — in the two-part special The Real Housewives of Potomac: Karen's Grande Dame Reunion. The special focuses on Karen and her family, the Woodens, gathering to try and figure out what the future holds for their farm, which has been in her family for more than a hundred years.

"I'm so grateful that [my daughter] Rayvin [Huger] took me on this journey to dig deeper, because I grew up with all the fables and the stories handed down from generation to generation, but there is nothing like truth, facts, history, knowing who you are. So I was actually honored that Rayvin asked the question of me and said, 'Mom, I want to know more,'" Karen shared with The Daily Dish in a recent interview. "And it also answered the questions of viewers of RHOP, they wanted to know more. So the stars just aligned, and I just wanted to show them who I was, and in doing so I learned so much more about myself."

It was also a special time for Rayvin, who opened up about learning more about her family while filming the special. "It was a beautiful experience to share an intimate moment with my family where we took the time to learn about our history. I am so much more emboldened and intentional with my actions moving forward now, knowing who I am and where I come from. It was a powerful and moving moment for all of us," Rayvin shared in a separate interview with The Daily Dish via email. "I knew a lot about my history but didn’t look at it as closely as I was afforded the opportunity to during the reunion ... The people in my family are truly inspirational. My cousins are fiercely intelligent people with a lot of heart. I feel so blessed to not only be related to them but to have them as friends."

Karen shared that her family's discussing and exploring their history speaks not only to their own experience but to the experience of many Black families. "Let's be honest, this conversation needed to be had. In this country, when we're often asked not to talk about Black history, Bravo allowed me [and my family] the opportunity to talk about it. We were excited to share our struggle and our victory, so it all aligned. It's perfect timing," she said. "I've always shared with RHOP [fans] my family [story], but it deserved that moment to have it be a stand-alone."

Karen has, of course, shared with RHOP viewers a bit about her family's history and her experience of being named the Surry County ambassador in Season 6. She notes that sharing this side of herself on the Grande Dame Reunion was sharing "an extension of what you see on Potomac." She also reflected on her evolution over the years, which you can hear about in the exclusive video above.

Karen has felt the support of the RHOP ladies around the release of this special. They have posted about it on social media and appeared at a premiere party held earlier this month. "I have always said that RHOP ladies are a class act. When we have endeavors or businesses, we get behind each other and lift each other and support each other," Karen said. "So, so grateful and so happy that the girls did wish me well on this project. It made me warm and fuzzy. It keeps us true. That's why RHOP is successful. We get in there, we catfight like none other. But when it's time, we support each other."

As for what's next for her family's farm, well, here's what she shared: "Where are we going next with the farm? That's a whole other story. The younger generation is working very diligently to take the farm into the future." Separately, Rayvin said, "My hope and prayer is that we are deliberate and proactive about our intentions for the family farm. I think it all comes down to strategizing a way we can honor the land, keep it within the family, and utilize it so that it can work for us as well."

Karen further noted, "And the plans are going to wow you. It's just unbelievable what they're doing. The connections they've made to bring that farm into the future [so it will] be there for their children's children. I'm so proud of it. But this is going to be a journey. So you've got to stay tuned for that. And I will keep you guys posted."
