Rhea Perlman, Danny DeVito ‘see each other often’ 10 years after split: ‘We’re still a family’
Cheers to Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito — exes who know how to keep the love alive, even when the romance stops.
“We’re still separated, but we see each other often, and we’re still a family,” said Perlman . “We can do things together, we can do things separately. I’m really, really glad that Danny and I were able to navigate some rough days to be able to have this different kind of relationship. I think it’s pretty rare, but we agree on so many things that it makes sense.”
“It probably worked out for the best” between the former couple, who tied the knot in 1982 and share three adult children: Lucy, Grace, and Jack.
Though the native New Yorker acknowledged she does sometimes “wish we were still together because those were the glory days,” she noted that they weren’t the only high points of life: “These are other kinds of glory days.”
“I don’t know why it’s difficult for other people [in Hollywood to remain friends with their exes], but Danny and I have always loved each other,” Perlman said while appearing on “Watch What Happens Live” in 2019. “And we have three amazing children together, and we really agree on almost everything important. And so, you know, we were together for 40 years. ... 40 years is a long time, you know, you might have to do something else.”
Perlman, who also played the girlfriend of DeVito’s girlfriend on “Taxi,” said at the time that their relationship was “much better” than the last few years of their marriage “because all the tense stuff is gone. It’s not in your face. I’m not in his, he’s not in mine.
“There was a hard transition. ... But everybody’s ... got a good relationship with Danny, and with me, and with each other,” Perlman said at the time. “And that’s all we care about.”
