The Rangers have been bit by the injury bug at the worst possible time, as the team looks to get through the rest of the regular season without losing any more of their key contributors.

But they got some much-needed good news on Friday, as it looks like key trade-deadline acquisition Andrew Copp avoided serious injury in Thursday night’s win over the Islanders.

“I’m no doctor,” head coach Gerard Gallant said, via the New York Post. “I don’t want to get ahead of myself and put pressure on players. But I was told day-to-day, not serious. So we’ll see what that means.”

Copp suffered a lower-body injury after scoring a first-period hat trick on Thursday, and has eight goals in his 15 games since being traded to New York. Fellow deadline acquisition Tyler Motte is out at least the rest of the regular season with an upper-body injury, and Kaapo Kakko is back on the shelf as well with a wrist injury, but he is expected to be ready for the postseason.

Filip Chytil was also injured in Thursday’s win over the Islanders, but Gallant says he also doesn’t believe it so be serious.
