GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Authorities issued an alert to the Grayson County community on Tuesday after a man reportedly tried to scam the families of inmates at the New River Valley Regional Jail.

According to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, a man posing as a sergeant with the New River Valley Regional Jail is calling relatives of those who are incarcerated, asking them to pay between $500 and $600 to get their family member into the home confinement program.

The scam caller will also offer to send a cash app to complete the transaction quickly, officials warn.
