The massive wildfire burning in Gosper and Furnas Counties is 80% contained
Corn piles are proving to be problematic, but wind has helped cover hot spots with soil
GOSPER COUNTY, Neb. (KLKN) – Crews are still working to put out a 35,000-acre fire that started April 7.
The Arapahoe Fire and Rescue Department said in its latest update that the Road 739 Fire is considered 80% contained.
Trees in the Elk Creek corridor and surrounding areas are still standing after being burned, but large corn piles are proving to be a problem that won’t let up.
Mother Nature has chipped in with the effort, as hot spots in ditches along the burn path have been covered with topsoil due to high winds.
