Hospitality powerhouse Pihakis Restaurant Group has a slate of restaurants opening in Alabama and Tennessee.

PRG is anticipating a spring opening for Tasty Town Greek Restaurant and Lounge, its new Greek restaurant in downtown Birmingham. Housed in the bottom of the Lumen building at 10 14th Street, South at the West end of Railroad Park, Tasty Town will offer a “modern, youthful vibe” with a dining room, large bar area and lounge, according to a release.

The restaurant will offer fresh, Greek fare  daily for lunch and dinner. The  Tasty Town menu will center seasonal, traditional and Southern ingredients and techniques,  including small plates and entrees such as souvlaki grilled over live fire, fresh seafood, bright vegetables and  traditional dips with fresh baked pita bread. The menu is the culmination of recipe research and development from the Pihakis culinary team led by executive chef Paul Yeck, Nick Pihakis, Chef Rita Bernardt, David Atkins and Tasty Town chef de cuisine Mike Wilson.

Luca, PRG’s upcoming full-service, casual Italian dining restaurant, is still in the works, the restaurant group told AL.com in an email. Luca will feature handmade pasta, brick oven pizzas, gelato, craft cocktails and Italian wines. Slated to open in  2023 on  27th Street in the heart of Homewood, the restaurant will  feature an outdoor garden dining option, easy, takeaway food and gelato. Chef and operating partner Rita Bernhardt will lead the Luca  kitchen.

PRG’s businesses include Little Donkey, Rodney Scott’s BBQ,  Hero Doughnuts & Buns and the restaurant group is also updating and expanding those offerings. The Little Donkey location in Greystone on Highway 280 now has an updated food and bar menu, as well as lunch specials. The group also has two additional locations of Hero Doughnuts and Buns and Rodney Scott’s BBQ opening in Trussville in late May and early June as well. PRG also plans to open a Hero Doughnuts & Buns location in Nashville in late 2022.

One of the restaurant group’s biggest Nashville projects is slated to come in 2023. Rodney Scott’s BBQ in Nashville is in partnership with Country Music Superstar Eric Church and hospitality entrepreneur Ben Weprin to open Chiefs at  the former “Cotton Eyed Joe” building located at 200 Broadway. The space, a massive entertainment complex,  will feature a six-story bar, seated music venue, and a Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ restaurant, reports Southern Living.

PRG will oversee all operations of the restaurant, said Angie Mosier, the restaurant group’s creative director, in an email to AL.com.
