Prosecutors in Los Angeles County say there is not enough evidence to arrest five former Inglewood cops who opened fire on a couple sleeping inside a vehicle in 2016.

The officers had “an honest belief” that they needed to use lethal force against Marquintan Sandlin and Kisha Michael in a vehicle in Inglewood in February 2016, according to the district attorney’s office. Sandlin had a revolver on his lap, police said, putting their lives in jeopardy.

In a recent study, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon said, “[The cops] were in immediate danger of death or grave bodily damage when they discharged their guns.” “Criminal culpability is ruled out because of this honest reasonable belief.”

The pair slept in the front seats of a Chevy Malibu in two traffic lanes between two junctions in Inglewood, according to a report released on April 7. The windows were up and the doors were closed, according to the report.

The automobile was halted by police vehicles.

Before deploying a public address (PA) vehicle on an armored vehicle, authorities prodded the car and used LED light bars, sirens, an air horn, and a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter to attempt to rouse the couple asleep.

“Do not move, driver.” “Roll down the windows of the car,” the cops are supposed to have urged.

Sandlin awoke, lowered the vehicle’s rear windows, and drove ahead, colliding with a police car before reversing and colliding with another police car, according to the report. Officers stated it seemed Sandlin grabbed for his pistol, so they fired numerous bullets at him before unloading on Michael as she attempted to exit the Malibu’s passenger side. Michael was shot 13 times, while Sandlin was shot five times. Both of them perished on the spot.
