After a tough loss in Toronto, the New York Islanders were back in action on Long Island with Ilya Sorokin back in net again. To no surprise, he came out strong again for New York again today against a team that loves to shoot the puck.

In the first, the Islanders were outshot 12-5 but the score remained 0-0 due to the play in net from Ilya Sorokin. In the second period, the offenses came to life a little bit for both sides. Shots were 17-12 in favor of Florida, but both teams found the back of the net.

First, it was Sebastian Aho with assists from Andy Greene and Kieffer Bellows.

How about that pass from Andy Greene? Ilya Sorokin was great again in the second period but an offense like Florida is going to break through eventually. Alexsander Barkov got the Panthers on the board at 14:12 with a power play goal.

Early in the third, the Islanders went to the power play. At just 1:01, JG Pageau scored off an unreal feed from Mathew Barzal with Anders Lee standing in front to make it happen.

The Islanders desperately needed that. At 10:14, Kieffer Bellows went to the box for tripping and the Isles were able to kill the penalty but right after that Kyle Palmieri took a delay of game. That power play lasted just 15 seconds for Florida as MacKenzie Weegar took a high stick and a game misconduct.

On 4-on-4 Aleksander Barkov netted his 36th of the year. There was a scramble in front as Sorokin tried to cover it up but it bounced out to Barkov who made no mistake about it, tying it up at two goals a piece.

Well, in overtime make it a hat trick. Aleksander Barkov came in and was set up by Jonathan Huberdeau for the goal. Kyle Palmieri letting Barkov get that much space was certainly an interesting decision. Anyway, the Islanders fell 3-2 in overtime and will play on Thursday night against the Rangers.
