Boston Red Sox lineup: Connor Wong to catch offseason throwing partner Nathan Eovaldi vs. Blue Jays on Tuesday

BOSTON — Prospect Connor Wong caught Nathan Eovaldi’s bullpen sessions the past couple of offseasons in Houston.

The 25-year-old will be behind the plate catching Eovaldi (1-0, 4.50 ERA) when the Red Sox and Blue Jays play Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. here at Fenway Park.

Boston is without catchers Kevin Plawecki and Christian Vázquez who both are on the COVID-19 related IL. The Red Sox placed Plawecki on the COVID list Monday after a positive test. Vázquez was placed on the list Tuesday.

Wong and Eovaldi teamed up three times last year. Eovaldi had a 2.66 ERA in 20 ⅓ innings with Wong catching him.

The game is on NESN locally and MLB Network out of market.

Blue Jays lefty Yusei Kikuchi (0-1, 5.40 ERA) will start opposite Eovaldi.

Xander Bogaerts is 3-for-6 (.500) with two home runs in his career against Kikuchi. J.D. Martinez is 2-for-6 with two doubles. Alex Verdugo is 2-for-3 against him.

Bo Bichette is 5-for-12 (.417) with a homer in his career vs. Eovaldi. Cavan Biggio is 2-for-7 (.286) with two homers. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is 4-for-10 (.400) with a home run. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 2-for-11 (.182) against Eovaldi.
