Celebrity reality twist: 'Bachelorette' star Tyler Cameron hams up barbecue skills

Jupiter’s own Tyler Cameron, dreamboat star of ABC TV’s “The Bachelorette” reality series and barbecue fan, scored points with one of his biggest fans on Easter weekend: his grandma.

And according to Cameron's Instagram story, he has Tropical Smokehouse in West Palm Beach to thank for it.

Let’s go to the tape:

Nana’s in the dining room while Cameron shoots a video of a juicy, smoked heritage ham he had picked up for Easter at chef Rick Mace’s popular barbecue spot on South Dixie Highway. He zooms in on the ham and quietly says: “Look at that Tropical Smokehouse ham, pre-smoked for me.”

As his grandmother walks closer to the kitchen, he calls out to her: “Nana, I cooked an amazing ham, didn’t I?”

“Huh?” says Nana.

“Cooked an amazing ham!” he says.

“Yeah,” says Nana.

Cameron turns the phone to selfie mode and resumes a quiet voice: “I got Nana thinking I cooked this. I’m the best grandkid now.”

The 29-year-old reality star and model underscored the sentiment in an Instagram shout-out to the barbecue restaurant: “@tropical_smokehouse got nana and papa thinking I’m the best grandkid thanks to y’all.”

“The guy is too kind,” says Tropical’s pitmaster and executive chef, Mace, who finds it “hilarious” that Cameron pretended to pass off the Easter ham as his own.

Easter special: A smoked, heritage ham at Tropical Smokehouse.

Mace says he remembers when Cameron first visited the restaurant in early April.

“He came in and ate the burger and said it was the best burger in the world. He posted something in his stories. He’s been super-good to us, a super-nice guy,” says Mace, who opened Tropical Smokehouse in January 2021. “We seduced him with our cheeseburger.”

Tyler Cameron's food and cooking adventures

A barbecue and grilling fan, Cameron and his food and cooking adventures have been featured in the press. In 2020, Cameron offered this haphazard kitchen tour on Delish.

The previous year, in a lengthy interview with GQ magazine titled “The Real-Life Diet of Tyler Cameron, Undisputed King of the Bachelor Universe,” the star was asked what he’s best at when it comes to cooking.

“I’m best on the grill, making a steak,” he told GQ. “I’d rather have my steak than go to an expensive steakhouse. It’s all about how you cook it: medium-rare, crispy on the outside.”

A Jupiter native and general contractor, Cameron found stardom in 2019 as a finalist in Season 15 of “The Bachelorette.”
