Two killed in head-on crash on US 385 in Hartley County Sunday night

The Texas Department of Public Safety released information about a two-vehicle, head-on collision Sunday night in Hartley County, which left two people dead. 

According to a news release, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a 2021 Mazda CX5 driven by Kelly Williams, 29, of Lewisville, Texas, was northbound on US 385, about two miles south of Hartley, traveling behind other vehicles. At the same time, a 2017 Toyota Highlander driven by Robert Kramer, 67, of La Veta, Colorado, was southbound on US 385.

The Mazda moved over into the southbound lane to attempt to pass other northbound vehicles, and it struck Toyota head on, according to the release.

Williams was taken to the hospital in Dumas, where she later died from injuries she sustained in the crash.

Kramer died on the scene. He was pronounced deceased by Hartley County Justice of the Peace Beth Moore.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

The posted speed limit was 75 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
