Days Shocker: Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso Returning as Bo and Hope in Peacock’s Beyond Salem
It looks like Bo and Hope’s epic love story will continue on after all.
Peacock announced Monday that the Days of Our Lives spinoff Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem will return with five new episodes (airing Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15) that will also feature the return of Days icons Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso.
Reckell and Alfonso are set to reprise their roles as fan favorites Bo and Hope — which comes as a big surprise, since Bo technically died in 2015. As you’ll recall, Bo was held captive for several years and reunited with Hope, only to die in her arms from a brain tumor he never knew he had.
Additionally, Alfonso departed Days of Our Lives in 2020 after 37 years amid a contract dispute, saying at the time, “I think that that chapter has closed, and a new one needs to be started.” The split wasn’t exactly amicable, either: Alfonso sniped that “in the last few years, Days of Our Lives is not the Days of Our Lives as I know it.”
Beyond Salem‘s new tale will span the entire globe, from Monte Carlo to Hong Kong, as beloved characters from the OG series “trade the comforts of home for an adventure of a lifetime,” per the official synopsis. Over the course of the five-episode epic, “heartwarming family reunions take a dangerous turn as a mysterious adversary wreaks havoc on their lives. The next chapter of Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem is story full of larger-than-life romance, jaw-dropping twists, and high-stakes drama — and it all connects back to a plot that long-time Days of Our Lives fans will surely remember.”
“We are beyond thrilled to be partnering with Peacock again to produce a second chapter of Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem,” executive producer Ken Corday said in a statement. “Being able to build off the storylines from Days of Our Lives to create another exciting series for the audience brings myself, the Corday Productions team, and the cast so much joy. I cannot wait for the fans to see what we have in store next!”

Darn it! I was so thrilled to be rid of both of them. Just what Days doesn’t need – more ancient relics from the past. Neither actors could even get arrested after leaving the soap (although Alison Sweeney did wrangle a bit part for Alfonso in one of her Hallmark movies). Dreading these returns.
As long as these two aren’t reunited on the main show then I can avoid the Peacock spinoff episodes. The last Beyond Salem was dreadful!

SO DISRESPECTFUL! I happen to be one of the “relic” fans who has been watching since the beginning. If you want teenagers with absolutely no talent you should watch a different show. You won’t be missed!

I would love to watch this but I don’t get but simple cable. However I do agree days is just not the same and quite stupid. The writers suck.
Do you have internet at home or on your phone? If so you will be able to watch. Peacock is NBC/Universal’s streaming service. It’s not a cable channel. The first season of this show that aired last fall was even available on their free ad supported tier so was the Salem Christmas movie.
LMAO.. Yes! Well, the storyline’s always cancel out . something starts, and then it cancels’ out. I like RAFE. There hasnt been a storyline since 2015. Maybe 2018- some. With Kate Mansi and Chad.
I just have basic cable also & it drives me crazy with all the ads for shows I would like to watch but I can’t afford to pay the extra money for them.
Wow Paula. What an unintelligent thing you could say about what a show was founded on. I wish they were actually coming full time to DOOL, not just peacock. Doug and Julie, Victor and a tiny tiny few others are left. Bo and hope are the next generation of the originals, with so much rich history. It’s nice to have younger cast members too, but if that’s all you care for, then you’re on the wrong show. Enough of our history is already erased by careless writers. At least R.C. Is thinking about the full fan base and trying.

They’re only returning for Beyond Salem which is only available on Peacock,they won’t be appearing on the Daytime Days.
You must be a young’n. What you call “ancient relics” are what made the show popular. If they were still on today then the show wouldn’t be the garbage it is now. Do yourself a favor and lookup the show on you tube. There are plenty of channel uploaders who have complete storylines and whole years of the show from the past. You will see what I mean. Soaps in the 80′ and 90’s were the best things on TV.
I have no idea how Days will explain Bo’s return (Literally anything is possible on Days, though) but I am so glad he’s returning. Hope’s return is welcome too. This definitely makes Beyond Salem a must-watch for this old Days fan.
Could be a flashback, with no further explanation needed.
I’m not sure a flashback would be very satisfying. I could see Bo returning as a ghost or maybe he had one of those deathlike coma-inducing drugs so common in soaps used on him to fake his death.
On Roseanne, Dan’s death explained as a part of Roseanne’s fictional writing. Her character was an aspiring writer.

If Stefeno can keep coming back continuously as “the Phoenix” anyone can. I started watching at the start when Julie was a teen stealing in stores and being a spoiled brat. I love both Bo and Hope and no one can ever change that! I love all the people and love going to Salem instead of my world as a escape…
I lost all respect for KA when she left. It’s okay to be upset but she was very unprofessional and nasty. But hopefully she’s coming to get her spoiled brat daughter as VK exits.
In fairness, Kristian Alfonso was asked to take a 5 month layoff without pay and then return on contract after that. That is why she said “goodbye”.
And further, that came on the heels of the covid shutdown of production so she would have been not working for almost a year.
Don’t give a hoot about Hope…Days writers made her character completely unbearable after Bo first left to help his mother. But to see Peter Reckell again as Bo thrills me to no end!!
Kristen Alfonso was right about one thing for sure tho…Days IS NOT and HAS NOT been Days for a very, very long time.
It will be interesting to see how Bo is resurrected from the dead. I found it difficult to stick with “Beyond Salem”; there was something cheezy about it. Let’s HOPE no one is possessed by the devil. THAT story line needs to go along with some others that seem desperate to get up to speed with the times. Dr. Rolf and his formulas! Oh, I miss the stellar writing and acting when Allison Sweeney drops in!
Being that this is a separate storyline from the TV show, they may not provide any explanation at all for Bo being alive. The Roseanne reboot did the same thing. Dan had been killed off in the original show, and then there he was in the reboot. I remember they worked some kind of joke about it into the first episode, but don’t recall exactly what it was.
They explained Dan’s death by making the entire season 9 a figment of Roseanne’s imagination, as she was an inspiring writer.
So that erased their lottery win as well.
They made Dan “surviving” his cardiac infarction a figment of Roseanne’s imagination. The series finale of Roseanne explained that much of what the viewers watched was a fictionalized version of Roseanne Connor’s life. Roseanne “made up” that Dan cheated on her because that was easier to process than his death. When the Roseanne reboot happened much if not all of season 9 was retconned along with various other story elements from previous seasons.

I stopped watching Days when everyone that died came back to life years later. It just doesn’t seem real anymore and I lost my interest. I definitely won’t watch Beyond Salem….

Beyond Salem was fun and ridiculous the first time around – I’m glad we’re getting another edition. I mean, Leo saved the world – come on! :) Hope Will and Sonny are back again. It’s been really nice having them back on the main show lately.

I wish they would return to the mother ship but I have a lot of respect for KA not wanting to disappear for 6 months etc. DOOL is a revolving door which works on some levels but it’s also like, who am I supposed to care about? Who are the actual long term characters on this canvas?
Got to agree with Kristian, Days just isn’t the same. When the devil came back, I quit watching. Can’t stand the coming and going of characters. It’s the core stars that kept you on for so many decades, now we barely see them.
I’m thrilled to see Bo and Hope back on the screen, although I can’t figure out how Bo is alive unless the good doctor brought him back to life too… It’ll be good to see what happens between the 2 of them.. I missed you guys!!!

I love Bo and Hope! They have tried to make Ben and Ciara like Bo and Hope and have come nowhere near their love story. I really don’t care how they bring back Bo just as long as they do! I just wish it wasn’t on beyond Salem. Whoever writes for that show must have worked for Kraft….cheezy….yeah I know…lol
Because Bo was never a serial killer like Ben. Its insulting they put his and Hope daughter with the Necktie Killer.Despite claims he changed Ben comes off still clingy, obsessive,predatory, threatening. When Ciara fell for Theo again last year he came off stalkerish and didn’t take no for an answer.Another example of white washing villains. You have head writer Ron Carlivati to thank for the crappy stories the last few years The constant rape stories, vilifying certain characters, his favortism toward Ben because he horny for RSW like the Cin shippers. He’s also to blame by many soap fans for One Live to Live cancellation and almost ruining General Hospital.
