As the owner of a career 40.9 percent three-point accuracy, Doug McDermott is one of the most consistent floor spacers in the NBA. By default, that means that the Los Angeles Lakers need him desperately.
After all, the Lakers roster two dynamic ball-handlers who, conventional wisdom dictates, should be surrounded by floor spacers. That’s why the LeBron James and Russell Westbrook pairing was questionable in the first place. The latter does nothing for the former.
McDermott would be a smart target for the organization whether or not they’re moving on from Westbrook. If they are, they still need to be surrounding James with the spacing this roster badly needs. If they’re not, that simply holds doubly true.
Frankly, it’s difficult to imagine a successful team featuring both former MVPs, but the addition of McDermott would at least improve their odds.
