MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Morehouse Parish School Board honored the late National Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock earlier Saturday in Mer Rouge. They named the Delta Junior High School Auditorium the Lou Brock Memorial Auditorium.

Brock passed away in 2020, but this was a way to honor his legacy in front of his family and friends. Morehouse residents say Brock gave back to the community in many ways but the most impactful way was providing scholarships for students.

“When he made it, quote “made it,” he decided to give back to his community and that’s very important because what he did was to make it possible for hundreds of young people to go to college, said Veronica Tappin, Morehouse Parish School Board Member.

“So in addition to a memorial that we’re doing today, we also did a student activity, and it was a literary contest, and we did it in Mr. Brock’s honor because of the fact he strictly believed in education,” said Vera Tucker, the Memorial Auditorium Dedication Organizer.

The students also won prizes and an award for the literary contest.
