Deichmann was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Saturday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
The move clears space on the 40-man roster for the Cubs to add Locke St. John. Deichmann has gotten off to a slow start for Triple-A Iowa this season, hitting .207 with a 44.8 percent strikeout rate through eight games.
