Ryan Christie makes Celtic admission despite summer exit

Like many other Celtic players, Ryan Christie did not have a good 2020/21 campaign, as the Hoops finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership. The Scottish international made a splendid start under the management of Ange Postecoglou though and looked like the perfect fit in his system. Unfortunately, the midfielder would end up leaving for Bournemouth though.

Christie has done pretty well at the Championship side, as it looks like they are set to be promoted to the Premier League.

Interestingly, Christie’s last game for Celtic was against the Rangers, in the first Glasgow Derby of the season, which the Ibrox side won 1-0. And it appears that he is still bugged by that.

Heading into the Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and the Rangers, Christie has admitted to still having an eye on the Glasgow Derbies and supporting his old teammates. As reported by the Daily Record, he told Go Radio:

"“Obviously it frustratingly ended in a defeat which still bugs me.“I got lucky enough to play in plenty Old Firm’s before I left Celtic and whenever they come around now I’m still eager to tune in and watch them.“Everybody around you, obviously the first question they ask you when it’s on is ‘what it’s like to play in? and ‘how good is the atmosphere’ and you always just tell them how amazing it is and how much it’s kind of built up around the whole country whenever it’s on.“So I’m still looking on supporting my old team mates and pals.”"

It is safe to say that Celtic have made tremendous progress since the summer. That 1-0 defeat at Ibrox has been followed by back-to-back wins, both home and away. Postecoglou’s side have also won the Scottish League Cup and are leading the Premiership title race by six points with five more league games to go.

And they will have the chance to keep their treble hopes alive when they face the Rangers at Hampden Park this weekend in the Scottish Cup semi-final. It is safe to say that the Hoops have done better than anybody could have expected.

On the other hand, Christie is not expected to have any regrets about his move either. Bournemouth are comfortably in second in the Championship and barring a late collapse, they look set to play in the Premier League next season.
