Track & Field Posts Strong Showings at Mt. SAC, Bryan Clay

UCLA Track & Field came away with strong performances at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut Calif. and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., marking the third-straight day of competition for the Bruins.
Mt. SAC Relays
A quintet of Bruins toed the line in the women's 200m, with Cathetine Leger leading the charge with a 14th-place finish and a time of 24.33. Shae Anderson followed closely in 15th with a time of 23.40, while Makenzy Pierre-Webster (23.62) and Maddy Doane (24.00) took 19th and 34th place, respectively. Chinyere Okoro crossed in 40th with a time of 24.11. Cristian Moore was the lone participant in the event for the Bruin men, finishing at 21.55 (+2.6w).
Anderson also posted a fourth-place finish in the women's 400m out of a field of 55 competitors, going 52.03 in her first appearance in the event this outdoor season.
Kai Wingo notched a strong performance as the Bruins' lone competitor in the 800m, crossing with a lifetime-best time of 1:51.97. He shaved over 1.5 seconds off his previous best of 1:53.62, set back at the 2021 Pac-12 Championships. Rose Pittman was the Bruins' top finisher in the women's competition, taking third place overall with a time of 2:06.03. Gwyn George notched a PR in the event, going 2:07.87 for 15th place in the event.
Aidan Elbettar and Ugonna Ikejiofor competed in the final round of the men's discus competition and secured fifth and seventh place, respectively. Elbettar secured a mark of 56.69m (186-0) while Ikejiofor notched a lifetime-best toss of 56.07m (183-11). Lyvante Su'emai was impressive with a second-place finish in the women's competition, taking a big PR with a mark of 55.43m (181-10).
In the women's javelin competition, Lauren McFall picked up a season-best mark of 47.17m (154-9) for seventh place overall.
Mia Cervantes was the top finisher for the Bruin women in the pole vault, taking fifth place overall with a clearance of 3.85m (12-07.50). Camryn Thomson and Isabella Grant both cleared 3.70m (12-01.50), but finished in ninth and 13th place, respectively, on attempts. Tate Curran picked up a third-place finish in the men's competition with a clearance of 5.15m (16-10.75).
Bryan Clay Invitational
Ashley Johnson continued her stretch of PRs in the 1500m with a lifetime-best time of 4:26.81 in Azusa. Freshman Mia Kane made her UCLA outdoor debut with a time of 4:35.19 in the event. Munir Kabbara was the Bruins' top finisher on the men's side, crossing with a lifetime-best time of 3:44.11.
Jai Gruenwald led the Bruin women in the long jump, finishing 20th overall with a mark of 5.71m (18-08.75). Freshman Megan Ronan was close behind with a leap of 5.68m (18-07.75, +2.4w). Matt DeRoos earned a 15th-place finish in the men's competition, clearing 7.21m (23-08.00).
The Bruins are set to wrap their busy week of competition with the Beach Invitational in Long Beach and the conclusion of the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday.
