Henry Golding Joins Downtown Owl Movie From Lily Rabe & Hamish Linklater

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snake Eyes star Henry Golding has been tapped to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Downtown Owl. The feature will serve as the directorial debuts of actors and long-time partners Lily Rabe and Hamish Linklater.

After headlining his first solo film, the Malaysian-British actor will also next be seen in Netflix’s film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. He is also lending his voice to Paramount Animation’s animated film adaptation of The Tiger’s Apprentice, which also stars Sandra Oh and Michelle Yeoh.

Downtown Owl is directed by Lily Rabe (American Horror Story) and Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass) from a screenplay adapted by Linklater, based on the 2008 novel of the same name by Chuck Klosterman. The film also stars Rabe, Ed Harris, Vanessa Hudgens, Finn Wittrock, Jack Dylan Grazer and and August Blanco RosensteiN.

Set in the fictional town of Owl, North Dakota, the story centers around “three residents — an old man who spends his afternoons reminiscing in the local coffee shop, a depressed high school backup quarterback, and a new English teacher at the local high school — whose lives, along with those of the town’s other residents, are upended by a whiteout blizzard,” reads the synopsis.

Downtown Owl is produced by Rabe, Linklater, Bettina Barrow, and Rebecca Green for Kill Claudio Productions, with Tom McLeod, Laura Rister, Lee Broda, and Joel Michaely set as executive producers. It’s a production by Sony’s Stage 6 Films, with Eric Charles and Elizabeth Grave overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.
