HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Brewton-Parker opened its series at (RV) William Carey on Thursday night with a single nine-inning contest in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Barons (16-22, 10-6 SSAC) dropped the series opener to the Crusaders (24-15, 11-8 SSAC) in heartbreaking fashion as William Carey came from behind to win, 5-4.

How It Happened

After a scoreless two innings to open the game, the Barons found themselves up two runs in the third inning. Brewton-Parker was fortunate enough to find two free bases from Crusader errors while also collecting walks for Ethan Frasca as well as Taz Worrell, a single from Mackenzie McDowell, and a fielder’s choice for Tony Rudolph. Both McDowell and Frasca scored for the Barons.

The fourth and fifth innings ended with scoreless results before Brewton-Parker added two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Zachary Wilson picked up a leadoff walk before Eduardo Castillo doubled to centerfield. After a pair of strikeouts, Frasca knocked down a two-RBI single to bring home the two baserunners.

In the bottom half of the inning, William Carey produced three hits and four runs to level the score at a 4-4. The Crusaders connected for a leadoff double and reached base with a batter getting hit by a pitch. WCU scored on a sacrifice fly as well as a three-run homer to right field to even the score.
