There is a record amount of money for Yonkers’ Public Schools in the mayor’s proposed 2023 budget.
Mayor Mike Spano presented his budget to the City Council at City Hall Thursday night.
He says the $1.36 billion dollar budget has a record $680.7 million appropriation for the Board of Education, the largest an administration has ever budgeted.
The mayor said the city has a surplus but that it will dwindle quickly without aid from the state.
"This makes it difficult when we consider rising healthcare, energy costs, and as the labor leaders will tell you we have unsettled contracts,” said Mayor Spano.
The new budget will increase property tax by 3%.
