Hip Pies To Open In Uptown Charlotte On April 20
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — New culinary concept Hip Pies, a place for good vibes and pies, will open in Uptown Charlotte on April 20, Mother Earth Group announced Wednesday.
The pie eatery will bring far-out flavors never thought possible in pastry for customers. Offerings will change daily, but will include Buttermilk-Pecan, Cherry Cheerwine, Chocolate Peanut Butter (vegan), Strawberry Rhubarb, PB&J, the famous Something Classic Chicken Pot Pie, Carolina Crab Cake, Barbecue with Sweet Potato Crust, Ham and Jam with Benton’s Bacon, and Green Chicken Curry.
The pies will be individually-sized and suitable for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and dessert.
Hip Pies is a homage to Mother Earth Group founder Jill Marcus’ rise in the industry, which was thanks in part to her Chicken Pot Pie created for Charlotte’s Something Classic Cafe. Food Network discovered her pies two decades ago and shot an episode of “Food Finds” about them. After the episode aired, the Something Classic phone line rang with thousands of orders and requests to ship chicken pot pie across the country, something Marcus and her team had never considered or planned for.
“Most callers had a story to tell about their grandmother’s pot pie and how those memories were a real comfort to many in this ever-changing world,” Marcus says. “I feel lucky that we got to experience all of those stories as opposed to an email that ‘you just got an order.’”
While Something Classic still makes and ships chicken pot pies, Hip Pies allows the Mother Earth Group team to expand on the popularity of the original pie offering with unique and unexpected twists on classic pie recipes.
“Our hope is that Hip Pies delivers that same feeling of nostalgia and comfort to Uptown locals and visitors,” says Marcus.
Hip Pies, to be located at the Charlotte Visitor Info Center on South Tryon Street, will be open Monday through Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Due to the outdoor location, the shop will not be open during inclement weather.
