Amanda Setton Explains the Problem With Brook Lynn and Chase on GH
Fans noticed the spark between Brook Lynn and Chase on GENERAL HOSPITAL way back when he arrested her for getting into a bar fight and accidentally conking him with a beer bottle! Unfortunately, even after pretending to be Bailey’s parents, the pair just can’t seem to connect with each other and be honest about how they truly feel. But actress Amanda Setton understands why her character is unable to open up.
“Brook Lynn has been on her own for so long,” she explained to Soap Opera Digest. “She’s an only child, her parents are divorced — she rolls solo. I think she hasn’t had a lot of opportunity to trust people, and so here’s this amazing man who comes into her world, a stand-up guy who is lying on her behalf, for the deepest cause, this beautiful baby. She just falls head over heels, but she can’t trust that. She can’t trust herself.”
Even though Chase was willing to pretend to be Bailey’s babydaddy in order to protect the baby girl from Peter, Brook Lynn still kept him at arm’s length the entire time. And reconnecting after that emotional experience has been difficult for her, given how helping Maxie protect her daughter has changed her on a deeper level.
“She’s had some pretty questionable experiences in her life with men and there hasn’t been a real building of a relationship until Chase, and I think she is very afraid of that,” Settton mused. “Especially now, feeling all of these feelings around Bailey, I think she is even more afraid, because her heart has been opened now in a way that it has never been, so she can love in a way that she couldn’t love before.”
It’s only a matter of time before Brook Lynn and Chase finally give in and admit their feelings for each other, and Setton believes that their love will be stronger for having gone through all of this back-and-forth first. “There’s the romance-y stuff,” she allowed, “but there is also this friendship that the writers have built between them that has really grown over the years. There is a real respect and connection between these two people.”
