WAKEENEY - The Sacred Heart boys tennis team finished a close third among six teams Tuesday at the Trego Invitational at WaKeeney.

Trego won the meet with 44 points, followed by Scott City with 42 and Sacred Heart with 40. Playing conditions were miserable, with winds gusting to 50-plus mph.

"If we could have pulled out just one more match, we could have either won or tied for the team championship," Knights coach Tom Perrin said. "It was no fun playing in the wind, but we might have to play in these conditions again later in the season, so it was good experience."

Jace Douglas placed first in the No. 2 singles division for the Knights, winning all three of his matches. He defeated Trego's Augustin Crabbe 8-7 in the final. Casey Perrin went 2-1 to finish second at No. 1 singles, losing to Trego's Caden Brown 8-6 in the final.

Sacred Heart's No. 1 doubles team of Ben Cheney and Sean Riordan came back from an early deficit to beat Colby's Jahil Cardenas and Jakob Koon in the third-place match. The No. 2 doubles team of Thomas Cheney and Landon Johnson finished in fourth place.
