Jim Bowden, Steven Lee, Kenny Lucero among 2022 El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame inductees

The El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022 has been announced. 

The individuals were selected by the Hall of Fame Committee members, and the induction ceremony will be June 22 at the Radisson Hotel. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at www.elpasoathletichalloffame.com.

Living Athlete Category

* Dr. Jim Bowden was the leading scorer on the 1976 state championship Eastwood boys basketball team and a member of the UTEP men’s basketball team 1976-80. He is a contributor to many civic projects in the community for the less fortunate and also an outstanding tri-athlete.

* Steven Lee was an outstanding high school running back at Austin High School and led the state in rushing in 1985 with 2,625 yards and nine touchdowns including one game record of 419 rushing yards. Had a stellar college football career at Angelo State where he is in the college’s Hall of Honor. He is currently the girls basketball coach at Pebble Hills High School.

* Kenny Lucero was an outstanding cross country and track athlete at Coronado High School and was first team All State in 1986. At UTEP, he was a three-time WAC Conference 5,000 meter champion outdoors and indoors and was an NCAA All-American. He is currently a running coach at Americas. 

Coach/Administrator Category 

* David Moore coached the Clint High School boys basketball team to the Class 3A State Final Four and in 25 years he won 11 district championships and eight bi-district titles. As the girls and boys golf coach at Clint he had 29 boys and girls appear in the regional golf tournament.

* Wright Stanton III is a highly successful club swim coach with SWAT and the Barracuda’s for 22 years while coaching numerous collegiate athletes. The former Aquatic Manager for El Paso Parks and Recreation won numerous medals on the Senior Circuit.

Official Category 

* Chris Snead has been a collegiate football official in the Southeastern Football Conference for the past several years. He is the son of legendary artist and Buffalo Soldier one act play thespian Bob Snead and a Hanks High School grad. 

Media/Supporter of Athletics 

* Brian Kennedy founded the El Paso Sports Commission in 2003 as the CEO in elevating the world of sports in the Sun City from Conference USA Basketball Championships to Golden Gloves among the sports. Kennedy, along with legendary announcer Paul Strelzin, called high school football and basketball in the mid 1980s.

Posthumous Category 

* Bruce Gordon was a 17-year track and field coach at Coronado High School winning numerous district championships.
