The Santa Rosa Police Department opposes a motion to unseal a search warrant its officers served on City Councilman Eddie Alvarez after he left a council meeting in January. The motion was filed by the Press Democrat newspaper last month. The SRPD says the warrant is connected with an ongoing investigation and should stay sealed until the investigation is finished. Police seized three cellphones from Alvarez, including one that was given to him by the city, in connection with a deadly shooting outside a bar in the southwest part of town. Alvarez is not a suspect in the shooting. He was at the bar but left before the gunfire.
