Following the fans' long petition to release the director's cut of 2016's DC box office film, Suicide Squad, another actor from the film added fuel to the fire, expressing his interest in seeing David Ayer's Cut of Suicide Squad.
2016's Suicide Squad was supposed to explore each character's gritty and dark backstories. However, Warner Bros. interfered with David Ayer's plan for the film, like what happened to Zack Snyder's cut of the 2017's Justice League. Now, DC fans are petitioning online to "Release The Ayer's Cut," and expect Warner Bros. to do the same for Ayer's original cut of Suicide Squad.
Several stars from Suicide Squad also expressed in seeing Ayer's cut of the film, and one of them believes that it will premiere someday. Jay Hernandez, who starred as Chato Santana, a.k.a. El Diablo, was recently asked via TVLine about David Ayer's original cut of Suicide Squad during a Q&A for his CBS show, Magnum P.I. Hernandez calls it a "no brainer," saying that the chance of Ayer's cut premiering one day is very plausible. Hernandez explained,
“Honestly, I think it will [one day get released.[ And I’m a big fan of it happening. I hope it does. I’ve talked to [costars] Joel [Kinnaman] and Jared [Leto], everybody wants to see it. Everybody that I’ve talked to wants to see it. And I think Ayer wants it to be put out there, so it’s kind of a no-brainer. Put it on HBO Max or whatever, and the audience gets to see what the director’s original vision was. At the end of the day, I just want to see it. A lot of stuff changed from Ayer’s cut; I know, because I was there, and I shot it. There was a lot of stuff that never made it into the cut that went into the theaters.”
Jay Hernandez's El Diablo sacrificed himself at the end of 2016's Suicide Squad. However, in David Ayer's cut of the film, the firey metahuman was alive as evidenced by a VFX demo reel from 2017 that shows El Diablo standing with the other Task Force X members at the end.
After almost a year of online petitions, Zack Snyder's Justice League made its way to HBO Max, and fans keep their hopes up that Warner Bros. might one day release Ayer's cut of the well-acclaimed DC anti-heroes film, Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, according to former Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff, there are no active plans for Ayer's Suicide Squad to be released. But if these online petitions persist, Warner Bros. might change their mind.
