Longtime fans of The View have come to find Whoopi Goldberg an inextricable (and at times, quite controversial) part of the daytime talk show. She has, after all, been a main co-host on the show for the past 15 years. So it’s no wonder that people have been wondering over the last few days about Whoopi’s whereabouts.

Well, no need to worry too much. Whoopi will be back, but, as Joy Behar explained at the beginning of Monday, April 11’s episode of The View, “the girl’s got a movie she’s making!”

The aforementioned “movie” is actually an upcoming Amazon Studios miniseries called Anansi Boys, which is based on Neil Gaiman’s novel Anansi Boys. The fantasy series will follow the two sons of the spider-god Anansi (Delroy Lindo). Whoopi Goldberg will play Bird Woman in the show that will also feature Malachi Kirby, Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn, Fiona Shaw, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Grace Saif, CCH Pounder, Jason Watkins, and L. Scott Caldwell. We’ve got all of the details in the story below.

How long will Whoopi actually be away, though? We’re not certain of an exactly timeline, so all we’ve got for now is Behar’s assertion that her longtime co-host will be “gone for awhile.” (Important note: The View is going on a previously scheduled hiatus next week, starting Monday, April 18, and returning on Monday, April 25.)

Keep an eye out for more news from us in the future about Whoopi Goldberg, Anasi Boys, and The View.
