The ballpark opened its gates and welcomed fans for the first time in April 1992.
“I was here 30 years ago for the first time this building opened,” said John Krucenski, a fan from Federal Hill. “It was fantastic. Me and my brother we had the best time. I’m meeting up with him again and we’re gonna do it all again 30 years later.”
While fans told FOX45 News they were excited to celebrate their first Orioles home opener since before the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses near the stadium were also eager to welcome back customers.
“Please come down and support local businesses,” said Kris Beck, Corporate Director of Food and Beverage for Peachtree Hospitality Group. “We were just talking about all the people that have gone bankrupt or deeply into debt down here just on our block alone -- so we can desperately use more support like you see right around here.”
Bars and restaurants along Washington Boulevard say they teamed up to host an opening day block party.
The event welcomed thousands of people throughout the day, including Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.
“It's so nice that we can all work together and make it a nice event,” said Celena Dotson, General Manager of Peachtree Hotel group.
