Spider-Man: No Way Home's Alfred Molina Debunks Doc Ock's Return in The MCU

After two decades since Doctor Octopus' last appearance as a Spider-Man villain, Alfred Molina's Doc Ock made his surprising return in last year's MCU box office milestone, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Aside from the three-generation of Peter Parker reunion, villains from the previous franchise are also reunited on the big screens, which includes Molina's Otto Octavius, aka Doctor Octopus.

In No Way Home, Doc Ock, along with other Spider-Man villains from the previous franchise found themselves transported to Holland's Peter Parker universe. The multiversal rift happened when Parker interfered with Doctor Strange's spell intended to make the world forget about Parker's identity as Spider-Man.

Now, fans are wondering if Alfred Molina is set to have multiple appearances in future MCU projects, reprising his role as the classic Spider-Man villain. But the actor shared his thoughts on the possibility of his character's return.

In an interview with Household Faces podcast, No Way Home star Alfred Molina explained, "What makes [No Way Home] interesting and different from the previous one is that, here we see the full redemption, certainly of Doc Ock, which makes me think that maybe they may be putting him to bed, Because I don't think you can be a good person with a moral compass who turns into a villain, and then comes back to being the decent person he was and then [back again]."

Molina affirmed, "I don't think that would happen."

Molina is the only villain in No Way Home who had a change of heart, siding with Holland's Peter Parker. Doc Ock helped Parker to administer a cure for the other villains but eventually failed. In the film's ending, just like the other villains, Doc Ock was transported back to his own universe.

This Multiversal rift opens a lot of possibilities for more potential stories for every character involved in No Way Home, unfortunately, Otto Octavius's fate is still unknown. However, if the actor ever returns, he might play a prominent role in Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man universe, particularly for Spider-Man 4. Alfred Molina debuted as the main villain for Maguire's Spider-Man 2 and Ock can now play as a partner with Maguire's Peter Parker, now that he finally had his redemption arc and is no longer labeled as a villain.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be available for digital release on April 12.
