Rose Meets Democrat Majority Whip Jim Clyburn

Former Congressman and combat veteran Max Rose was joined by Majority Whip Representative Jim Clyburn (SC-6) to both receive his endorsement and address public safety concerns and gun violence in NYC.

“It is my absolute honor to be standing here with and to receive the endorsement of House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, someone who has been a tireless leader and advocate for reducing gun violence and promoting public safety issues,” said Max Rose. “Congressman Clyburn could not have been clearer in his remarks; Defunding the police is wrong and we must do everything that we can to get illegal guns off of our streets. I am so proud to stand here today with the author of the bill to close the charleston loophole to call on congress and local government to act swiftly to pursue safety for all and justice for all.”

“I said this to Max and I will say it again, Max is someone who I love and admire. We must not allow sloganry, thirty second soundbites to ruin our relationship with our peacekeepers. We support policing,” said House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn.

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis who defeated Rose in 2020 and is running against him again this year issued the following statement:

“This morning, Max Rose made another desperate attempt to convince residents of Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn that he actually cares about public safety.

“Max was an early supporter of Albany’s botched bail law that has released thousands of violent criminals back onto our streets, an early supporter of De Blasio’s plan to close Rikers Island and open community jails in our neighborhoods, and proudly marched with those who call to defund our police. Not only this, but Majority Whip James Clyburn, the man Max chose to hold a public safety press conference with, voted against my resolution to condemn calls to abolish, dismantle, and defund our police, and whipped votes in favor of legislation that strips resources and qualified immunity from law enforcement.

“While I support and have introduced efforts to combat illegal gun trafficking, getting illegally-possessed guns off our street is only one part of an increasing crime problem in our city. Max and Majority Whip Clyburn failed to address skyrocketing stabbings, rapes, robberies, and hate crimes that are plaguing our streets, decreasing the quality of life in our city and driving residents, businesses, and tourists away at a record pace.

“Max can pretend to be on the side of our police, but he will never be able to erase his fraudulent past. The fact is, there is only one law and order candidate in this race, which is why I’ve enjoyed the support of every major police union both statewide and nationally. I’ve delivered millions in funding to our NYPD and introduced legislation that would give our police the tools they need to do their jobs. Max Rose can’t say the same.”
