Varlamov made 25 saves in a 6-1 loss to the Blues on Saturday.
Varlamov didn't play poorly - his team around him did. In the first, a wide-open Nick Leddy beat him from the slot to open the game and a wide-open Vladimir Tarasenko picked up a rebound right in front of him and curled the puck around his pad. Justin Faulk beat him twice, including once on a rebound from a 3-on-1, and Ivan Barbashev poked the puck over the goal line on another rebound following a breakaway. No goalie can hold the fort on wide-open looks, odd-man rushes and breakaways. The Isles looked lost Saturday and Varlamov was a sitting duck.
