Former EastEnders actress Bonnie Langford has reflected on why she didn't tune in to watch a particularly sad scene involving her on-screen son Kush Kazemi.

Bonnie, who played Kush's (Davood Ghadami) mother Carmel from 2015 and 2018, told Inside Soap that his final scene was "not a nice ending".

"Davood is adorable, such a lovely man, and that wasn't a nice ending," she began. "So I didn't watch Kush being chucked under a tube train, no, I didn't want to see that.

"At least I just went off in the back of a taxi," she said of her scene in comparison. "Carmel's still in Dubai as far as I know, with her other son, Darius."

The soap star, who has been acting from the age of 7 ever since her first West End show, also discussed how being in a soap is very different to anything else she's done in her career.

She told the outlet that her time on EastEnders was a "lovely experience" and has "great admiration" for everyone who works on the soap because the speed and turnaround is "massive".

Bonnie also went on to reveal: "Though I do remember when I first went into the show, they wanted Carmel to dance, and I had to say no; that would just be a bit obvious [given her theatre background]. So we changed it."

After four years of being away from Walford, however, Bonnie did vaguely tease the prospect of returning to Albert Square in the future given the unpredictability of the business.

"I'm a working actor, and you can never predict what's going to happen next," she said. "I'm very lucky to still be doing something that I did as a youngster, and something I still enjoy.

"It's a privilege to entertain people and tell a story, I feel really honoured."

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
